A Perfectly Framed Mountain View
Our client had a simple yet profound request: to design a home that would allow him to enjoy a perfectly framed view of Mount Sheridan from his living room.
The task was to design a house that not only served its functional purpose but also celebrated the surrounding landscape, making the view a central feature of daily living.

Our Method
Our client’s simple request became the guiding principle for the entire design. At Loveday Designs, we focused on creating a living space that brought the outside in, positioning the home carefully so that, from his chair, the client could look out and see Mount Sheridan perfectly framed by his windows.
To achieve this, we proposed a design that included a large covered patio on the mountain-facing side of the home. This feature provided shade for a generous picture window, allowing for unobstructed views of Mount Sheridan.
The Process
- Listening and Understanding: We started by deeply understanding the client’s vision, recognizing that the view of Mount Sheridan was more than just a preference—it was a necessity.
- Precision in Planning: Working closely with a surveyor, we took detailed topographical measurements to ensure the home’s placement would capture the desired view. This data-driven approach allowed us to precisely position the house and design the window and patio to frame Mount Sheridan perfectly.
- Designing with Purpose: The design was centered around the view, with the home’s layout, window placement, and patio orientation all carefully considered. We used the sight lines from the survey data to determine the field of view for the picture window and the placement of the patio columns, ensuring the mountain was always in focus.
- Seamless Execution: After the final design was approved, we created detailed construction drawings and provided CAD files to the surveyor. These files allowed the surveyor to stake out the exact location of the home’s foundation, ensuring the builder could accurately translate our vision into reality.
The Result
A Perfectly Framed Mountain View
When the home was finished, the client could sit in his recliner and enjoy a perfectly framed view of Mount Sheridan, just as he had envisioned. Although the window faces west, the design cleverly uses the slope of the roof and the mountain itself to block the summer sun, seamlessly integrating the home with its natural surroundings.
